When we decided to travel in Vanlife style we had no idea what it would be, the only thing we knew is that we wanted to travel in a van. We had already explored many places, but never lived in a van. Before this adventure, Diego worked in sales traveling through five Brazilian states while I was working in Blumenau city, State o Santa Catarina where we lived. We decided then that we would travel and work together in our van.
A year and a half ago we bought our Kombi, and we took a year to get it ready. We reformed the bodywork, painting, and part of mechanics. All the furniture and interior adaptation were done by ourselves.
We have been on the road for more than five months so far; the initial idea is to travel all over South America. We have already passed through Uruguay, Argentina and now we are in Chile, but today we no longer know if we are only traveling through these countries or if we will cross over to other nations.
The will of traveling and knowing more increases each day. At every corner, we discover something new, new people, incredible sceneries. A free and at the same time enriching lifestyle. Our Kombi affectionately is called Janis (as for Janis Joplin), provides us with exactly what we need, sleeping in the middle of nature, build fires, reach remote places and always have our house close by.
We travel with our dog Zed; he was always part of the plan. He has been in our lives for five years, and we are happier traveling together. Without saying that he is super quiet and loves to take the road too. Some countries have some bureaucracies to allow him to travel with us, however, nothing that we can’t resolve or foresee.
Even though it is a rules-free lifestyle, we work to keep ourselves traveling. Many ideas come every day, but the gastronomy always took us where we wanted, and it is with it that we support ourselves. We sell Brownies, cook in people’s homes, and work on what it takes to live on the road.
We are happy and fulfilled with the way of life that we have. Today what bonds us to Brazil is our families and our friends, who we miss every day, and support us sending us great energies. Little by little, we are building a family on the road too, there are so many people who welcome us into their home and treat us as if we were family.
“Life is one, so let’s live it the best way possible.”
